A Howard University graduate student who was reported missing on Tuesday has been found safe after a major search involving multiple law enforcement agencies, according to Stafford County Sheriff Charles E. Jett.

Lance Buckley disappeared after he got a ride into the District to pick up his graduation papers, just days before he was to receive his PhD in microbiology. His distraught wife pleaded for his return in a heart wrenching press conference. The couple have two daughters, a three-year-old and an infant born less than two weeks ago.

The 33-year-old was found at the Brunswick Family Campground in Frederick County, Md., about 10 miles from Harper’s Ferry, by the Brunswick Police Department and Rangers from the National Park Service, the sheriff’s office said. The agencies had received tips that someone matching Buckley’s description was seen nearby. He was in “good condition,” according to police.

“We are truly pleased that Mr. Buckley was found safe and in good condition,” Jett wrote in a Facebook post. “The partnership between the law enforcement agencies, the media and citizens in this region were critical to locating Lance Buckley.”
