As part of an ongoing attempt to lure tourists to the District by telling them we’re cool, Destination DC has launched its latest summer campaign tagline: #WeGotThis.
“#WeGotThis embraces the spirit of our ongoing DC Cool campaign. It’s our way of saying ‘DC has it all’ from affordable hotels and free museums to unique outdoor recreation and amazing cuisine,” said Elliott L. Ferguson, president and CEO of Destination DC, in a release. Something must be working, since we keep breaking our own tourism records.
In addition to a set of D.C.-specific emojis released last week to support the campaign, the city’s official marketing organization has created its first 30-second commercial for cable television, which will air in New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia.
In it, some unharried parents and their remarkably excited children are introduced to a city filled with dancing people, bike riders, cocktail makers, picnickers, and a random businessman. It ends with the children exhausted, the mark of all successful parenting. It’s actually pretty infectious.
Destination DC is also asking “What are you most excited about that DC’s got?” They have requested that people “let everyone know all summer long by using the #WeGotThis hashtag!”
In related news, tourists to D.C. aren’t the only people who “got this.” Here is a not comprehensive list of other people who do, too.
