>> Bohemian Caverns is the District’s best jazz club, but it’s Blues Alley that has the most widespread recognition among the city’s jazz venues. Blues Alley will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a concert on Saturday at the Music Center at Strathmore. The lineup reflects the club’s shift in recent years toward R&B and smooth jazz, and features Angela Winbush, Kindred the Family Soul and Chelsey Green. 8 p.m. Tickets $48-$88.

>> The Songwriter Soul Kitchen is a laboratory for all sorts of creative types. It is the brainchild of Vinx, the singer-percussionist who can’t be pigeonholed into any one musical genre. He and participants from the Soul Kitchen will be at Bohemian Caverns on Sunday for an early show. 4:30 p.m. Tickets $10 in advance/$15 at the door.

>> Jamie Baum is a highly respected jazz flutist that has played major festivals and clubs throughout North America and Europe. >> The Greater U Street Jazz Collective is a group of veteran players who are inspired by the great jazz tradition that came out of that neighborhood before urban blight set in. The ensemble is July’s Artist-in-Residence at Bohemian Caverns, performing 7:30 and 9 p.m. sets every Tuesday this month. Tickets $10.
