If you happened to see photos of Vice President Joe Biden at the White House’s reception for the 25th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act, you might have noticed a bruise under his lip. It turns out it was not from a misdirected toothbrush but a wound from being in the line of dog parent duty.
The AP reported, “The vice president’s office says Biden got the bruise from playing with his dog. Biden and his family have a German shepherd named Champ. The pooch is occasionally spotted at public events at the Naval Observatory, the vice president’s official residence.”

A 2010 Politico article noted that Champ, a purebred German shepherd, “often encourages the vice president to take a walk before the sun even comes up.” Also, at the end of the day, “he has usually exhausted himself, and can be found curled up on the couch helping Dr. Biden grade her papers or at the front door casually greeting and sniffing anyone who enters”—Champ, not Joe Biden.
