The ice cream man is back—only this time you don’t have to scrounge for change to get a vanilla king cone.

The Good Humor truck will be roaming the streets of Washington and handing out frozen treats for three weeks. They are kicking things off with an appearance at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center’s Moynihan Plaza from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Yes, it is called the “Welcome to Joyhood” tour. Normally I’d scoff, but this is three weeks of free ice cream in August and, well, they can call it whatever they want.

The “Joy Squad” not only has a Good Humor Man, but a fleet of cars and “a modernized Good Humor Truck, which has the look of a classic Good Humor Truck from yesteryear and also includes cutting edges features such as six digital TV screens, social media capabilities, and a music/PA system for playing today’s hits.” Again, normally I’d scoff, but …

This is their first trip to D.C. (they went to NYC and Boston the last two summers) and it comes with a bit of local trivia, according to the Good Humor people. Harry Burt filed for a patent in 1920 for his ice cream on a stick. But it was only three years later, after a personal trip to D.C. with a five-gallon pail of Good Humor bars in tow, that the patent office granted it to him.

The truck will be making appearances through Aug. 25. You can track where they’ll be on Twitter by following @GoodHumor (you can also ask them to come to you). Here’s the schedule for the first week.
