Tonight is the last night Jon Stewart will host The Daily Show, but his iconic set won’t be hauled off in bits in pieces to various places around the country, like so many other talk show sets, instead it will go in a museum, where it fucking belongs.
The Newseum announced yesterday that it will be acquiring the set of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart after tonight’s final episode through a donation. That set will soon become part of the Newseum’s permanent collection and will be on display sometime in the future.
“From The Daily Show anchor desk, Jon Stewart dissected the news with blistering wit and wisdom as millions watched,” Cathy Trost, senior vice president of exhibits and programs at the Newseum said in a statement. “He also was a voice for a strong and free press, and against the silencing of journalists by repressive regimes. We are thrilled to accept the donation of these artifacts to the Newseum collection, because they are part of America’s cultural and media history, telling an important story about how political satire and news as humor made The Daily Show a trusted news source for a generation.”
After tonight’s final episode, The Daily Show will take a hiatus until September, when new host Trevor Noah takes over.
