Most Washingtonians don’t have a lot of faith in Metro right now. And Metro knows that. After the derailment incident on August 6—and the subsequent revelation that WMATA knew about the issue that caused it weeks prior—the Metro Board Safety Committee announced that they’re holding an “earlier than scheduled meeting” to address and review recent safety concerns.
“I don’t want to mince words, but this was totally unacceptable,” interim general manager and CEO Jack Requa said at the time of the revelation. The advance meeting, which will take place on Thursday, September 3rd at 10 a.m., will be to review Requa’s operational investigation report relating to the derailment incident. The report is scheduled to be delivered to the Safety Board by August 24.
Metro Board Safety Committee Chair Michael Goldman said that he’s aware of senators’ call for an earlier meeting, but wants to “give Board Members sufficient time to review the report and consult with their jurisdictional safety experts,” according to a release.
