Update: The Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the victim of the shooting has died. Police are investigating the shooting as a homicide. This puts the homicide count for 2015 up to 95 so far, 31 percent higher than this time last year.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred this afternoon in Northeast D.C.
According to a MPD public information officer, one man was shot in the 4900 block of East Capitol Street NE at approximately 12:13 p.m. this afternoon. Police have blocked off the sidewalk in front of the St. Luke Roman Catholic Church on that block with crime scene tape.
Few details were immediately available, but the when units arrived on the scene, the victim was unconscious and police are currently searching for three men who drove away from the scene in a blue minivan.
