Update 2: According to accounts from several bystanders, the victim was an older man who was running across the street. “The bike belonged to a cop who showed up on a bike and hopped off to help,” said Allie Caren, a digital content editor at Rare.us, who said she was about four feet away from the man when he was hit. The police vehicle had its sirens on, according to Caren, and struck the man just as he was about to approach the median.
D.C. Police confirmed that the person struck was a pedestrian, not a cyclist as they had said earlier, but couldn’t confirm any other details.
Update 1: One person was critically injured and a second person sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries when a cyclist pedestrian was struck at Connecticut Avenue and L Street NW, according to D.C. Fire and EMS. They have both been transported to the hospital.
