It’s almost like there’s a need for more mass transportation options on the H Street corridor that something bulky and red and rather old-fashioned could help out with.
Enter Capital Bikeshare. Between mid-2014 and mid-2015, the most popular route among all registered users was Columbus Circle/Union Station to 8th and F Streets NE; the reverse route was the second most popular, according to system data analyzed by local resident Mike Azar on his Chart-It blog.
Meanwhile, among casual riders, the most popular routes all unsurprisingly traverse the Mall.

The results are remarkably consistent over a yearlong period. Between July of 2014 and June of 2015, casual riders were always most likely to be going between two stations around the Mall. And the most popular route among registered riders was always Columbus Circle/Union Station to 8th and F Streets NE, or the reverse.

Azir also took a look at how long riders are traveling, finding that stations around the Mall had riders lollygagging. Predictably, stations further north in Petworth, Cleveland Park, 16th Street Heights, and Brookland as well as about half of the stations east of the Anacostia River and many of the suburban docks tended to see longest rides.
