Milk Bar, the NY-based sister bakery to Momofuku, surprised Washingtonians by flinging open the doors to a new confection-laden shop at City Center this morning.

The creation of Springfield-native Christina Tosi, Milk Bar is known to dessert afficionados for offering cereal milk, compost cookies, and crack pie (no affiliation to any Toronto or D.C. mayor intended.) For the D.C.-spot , Tosi is debuting parfaits and offering other breakfast options for busy worker bees to pick up on the go. Operating hours are 7 a.m.-12 a.m. every day.

Meanwhile, Momofuku, the ramen and steamed bun joint that launched David Chang’s food empire, started hiring next door last month. It is slated to open sometime this year.
