Howard University students woke up yesterday to a violent threat on an online forum, and the administration bumped up security on campus and in the Metro in response.

Howard President Wayne Frederick sent an update to the university’s community last night, saying that the “online threat towards Howard University has not been followed by any additional threats or suspicious activity.”

According to Frederick, the FBI is leading the investigation, with help from Howard’s Department of Public Safety, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the Metro Transit Police Department.

A person claiming to be a University of Missouri student returning to Maryland wrote a racist screed that included promises to kill African American students at Howard.

Frederick said, “We strongly denounce the sentiment expressed in the online threat because it speaks against the very freedoms that Howard University and our community stand for. I am encouraged by the response of the Howard community in its show of support and solidarity.”
