Now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over, it’s time time for Giving Tuesday—an annual fundraising event that charges you to be charitable.

Giving Tuesday was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation. Since then, the movement has gone global, engaging 30,000 organizations worldwide. And since the platform’s launch, there’s been an estimated 470 percent increase in online donations on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

A large part of today’s awareness happens on social media. D.C. area non-profits will hit your timelines publicizing why they’re the best do-gooder in town and what you can do to help.

Some will give you a glimpse into their programming.

Others will entice you with food and drinks.

Some will provide alternatives to donating money.

And even more will provide you with pics of really cute kids.

No matter what tugs at your heartstrings most, there are plenty of causes from which to choose.
