A Secret Service officer was shot to death in Southwest yesterday just before 3 p.m.

According to an MPD spokesperson, he was shot multiple times in the 4700 block of 1st Street SW at 2:51 p.m. The Secret Service acknowledges the victim as Arthur Baldwin, a member of the uniformed division of the U.S. Secret Service.

“We express our condolences to the family of our fallen employee,” Robert K. Hoback of the USSS said.

Baldwin was suspended from the USSS for a domestic incident in April. According to the Washington Post, police said he “tried to kick in the front door of his former girlfriend’s apartment in the 3200 block of D Street Southeast.” At the scene, police found “dents, broken hinges and a boot print in the front door, and two apartment windows shattered.” Baldwin was charged with first-degree burglary and destruction of property.

D.C. Police are searching for three black males in connection with the killing. MPD reports 155 homicides in 2015 as of today—that’s up nearly 60 percent from last year.
