Following in the footsteps of George Washington University and New York City, American University has put the kibosh on hoverboards, effective today.
AU issued a temporary ban on the hands-free scooters on campus and in all AU-owned buildings until further notice. The devices have also been removed from Amazon and banned from major airlines (yes, that includes you, Russell Crowe).
GW’s policy went into effect on New Year’s Day. Like AU’s, the statement from the university cites “recent concerns by the Consumer Product Safety Commission,” including “fires and injuries related to these devices.”
