Was Potomac Phil right about spring coming early? Maybe. It looks like D.C. will get a dose of warm weather and April showers today. So much so that the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the region.
Between the snow melting and heavy periods of rain, things could get pretty messy, according to the NWS. The combination could result in flooding of streams and throughout the city this afternoon and tonight. The majority of the region will see rainfall amounts between one half and one inch, but some places may see between one and two inches. Plus, ice may be on some of the small streams, which could add to the flooding potential.
The flood watch will last from noon through late tonight.
And today’s temperature is expected to reach a high of 63 degrees, according to the NWS. The record highs for today are 65 at DCA, and 66 at Dulles and BWI—the Capital Weather Gang says breaking those records “are all in play.”
