A judge ruled today that the 16-year-old who is accused of shooting a man on a Green Line train yesterday will be tried as an adult, according to NBC4. The teen and his accomplice, 19-year-old Andre Broadie of Northeast, have been charged with assault with intent to kill.
Metro Transit Police recommended that the alleged shooter be tried as an adult. D.C. Police identified the two suspects on the South Capitol Street bridge yesterday, not long after the incident, using security footage from Metro. Witnesses identified the suspects, who remain in custody.
The 24-year-old victim was shot on a Green Line train as it approached the Anacostia Metro station. He was found on the platform about 12:45 p.m. breathing and conscious. About nine hours later, he was released from the hospital according to Transit police.
Metro Transit Police Chief Ronald A. Pavlik Jr. told News4 that transit officers’ uniforms will be changing soon “so officers will be more visible, hopefully deterring criminals.” He also said that police will focus more on crimes that happen on trains, as those incidences are increasing.
