For the first time in a long while, Metro commutes shouldn’t be too daunting this weekend… unless you’re catching the Red Line, which will operate every 6-20 minutes. In addition, Yellow Line trains won’t run between Huntington and King Street on Sunday until about 2 p.m. (passengers can catch free shuttle buses).

On to the good news: The Orange, Silver, Blue, Yellow, and Green Lines will run on a regular weekend schedule. Metrorail will also open two hours early on Saturday, at 5 a.m., to accommodate folks attending the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.

And with peak bloom just around the corner (the National Park Service pegs it at March 18-23), this is the last weekend that we’ll see planned delays for a month. In exchange for the the hordes of tourists, Metro is suspending weekend track work, beginning with March 19-20 through April 16-17.

On another note, daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, meaning clocks will move one hour ahead. When that happens, it will become 3 a.m. and train car doors will close for the night.

On Sunday, March 13, free shuttle buses replace Yellow Line trains between Huntington and King Street from opening until approximately 2 p.m. to accommodate an emergency response drill at Eisenhower Avenue station. Huntington and Eisenhower Avenue stations will be closed. During this time, Yellow Line trains will operate to/from Franconia-Springfield instead of Huntington. Blue Line service will not be affected.
