Quarterback Robert Griffin III is off to Cleveland to play for the Browns, who signed him to a two-year contract.
Once Washington’s football team released the golden-child-turned-benchwarmer from its roster, the quarterback began his search for a new team.
According to ESPN, Griffin, 26, visited Cleveland on March 18 and 19.
“Our visit was very informative, a lot of dialogue back and forth,” Browns Coach Hue Jackson said Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings, ESPN reported. “A lot of tough questions asked, a lot of tough questions answered. I don’t baby people. I’m sorry. That’s just not who I am. I ask the tough questions and I expect to get the tough answers, and he handled all that extremely well.”
As for Griffin, he said in a release that he’s “excited about the opportunity to join the Dawg Pound and help build something here in Cleveland … (The experience in Washington) helped me become a better person and a better player and showed me how much I love the game of football.”
Current Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins had nothing but nice things to say about Griffin, despite rumors that the two couldn’t be in the same room last season. “He was a great teammate throughout the whole season and supportive. He had a lot of experience, having played a lot, and was able to be a big help to me, so it was a positive thing,” Cousins told ESPN.
