Straight juicin’, man. That’s what we’re doing, thanks to an Oakland-based company beginning to make inroads in D.C.

The business, as we reported earlier today, is HighSpeed. CEO David Umeh calls it a “juice delivery startup,” but there’s a twist: the juice has three price points that allow you to “donate” to the company and, in exchange, receive a gift of weed.

We tested it out this afternoon, ordering the Turmeric Tangerine Lemonade at 2:24 p.m. via the website. The simple form for the transaction just required a driver’s license and credit card information.

It arrived at 3:03 p.m.—a little bit more than a half hour later (they called to make sure it was okay if they made the delivery a bit earlier than promised). When the juice arrived, hand delivered by two gentlemen in a black sedan, it was cold and the flavor we ordered. (Can’t say as much for the folks at D.C. Inno.)

The delivery person said that today has been extremely busy.

Of course, along with our juice we also got some “love” from HighSpeed, otherwise known as approximately one eighth of an ounce-worth of marijuana in a vacuum-sealed black bag. While we have not tested the marijuana in the interest of continuing to provide the news, it smells potent and has THC crystals.

But, thank goodness, we can juice all day long without impacting the quality of our work. And juice we did, because that Turmeric Tangerine Lemonade was delicious! Tangy, but with enough sweetness to satisfy those among us with a sweet tooth.

The juice lemonade is made by the L.A.-based company Juice Served Here. But they don’t have anything to do with HighSpeed. “We don’t really know anything about it,” said Juice Served Here’s marketing manager Hannah Ells. “They’ve been contacting us about cross posting and putting things on social media, but we’re not promoting another business that is selling our product … they’re not even a wholesale client, they’ve just been buying it retail off our website.”

According to Umeh, HighSpeed wants to partner with local businesses and provide delivery services for other foods and niche goods. A spokesperson for the company said that they’re talking to businesses at Union Kitchen, for instance.

Here are our take-aways:

  • This company earned the “speed” part of its name—our delivery arrived very promptly, despite it being a busy day.
  • It’s a pretty good deal. Sources tell us the street price for an eighth ranges from $50 to $65, so $55 for weed and an organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan juice ain’t bad. (The lemonade we got retails for $6 on the Juice Served Here website, so long as you purchase eight juices.)
  • The packaging is professional and more discrete than some other donation-based weed businesses.
