Vincent Gray’s comeback is going pretty much as planned, at least according to a new poll released by his campaign. In the race for his old Ward 7 seat, Gray has 52 percent of the vote to the incumbent Yvette Alexander’s 23 percent.

Grant Thompson pulled 4 percent of the vote, Delmar Chesley came in at 2 percent, and another 20 percent are undecided.

Public Policy Polling surveyed 500 Ward 7 voters last week, just before the release of hundreds of pages of documents related to the shadow campaign surrounding Gray’s 2010 mayoral run. Those files, released in response to a request from the Washington Post, contain some new tidbits but seem unlikely to derail Gray’s run.

Alexander’s favorability rating is just 37 percent to Gray’s 61 percent, according to the survey, which was paid for by Gray’s campaign.

The poll also found that Bowser’s approval rating in the ward is 43 percent.
