This week, Metrorail track work is taking place on all six lines, with trains running every 12 to 24 minutes. Plus, Silver Line trains will operate between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only, while Yellow Line trains will run to/from Mount Vernon Square rather than Fort Totten.
And in case you’ve been living under a disabled Metro train, General Manager Paul Wiedefeld introduced a year-long plan for maintenance work last Friday. It will begin on June 4 if it wins approval from the Metro board. Meanwhile, Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx told reporters yesterday that he will shut down the rail system if safety doesn’t improve.
Red Line
Trains every 18 minutes | 12:01 a.m. Saturday until closing Sunday
Single tracking between Dupont Circle and Van Ness to allow for rail, tie, fastener and insulator renewal

Orange Line
Trains every 20 minutes | 10:00 p.m. Friday until closing Sunday
Single tracking between McPherson Square & Smithsonian to allow for rail fastener and stud renewal and restraining rail maintenance.
Silver Line
Trains every 12 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only | 7:00 a.m. Saturday until closing Sunday
Silver Line trains will operate between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only. Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.
Blue Line
Trains every 20 minutes | 10:00 p.m. Friday until closing Sunday
Single tracking between McPherson Square and Smithsonian to allow for rail fastener and stud renewal and restraining rail maintenance.
Yellow Line
Trains every 24 minutes | 10:00 p.m. Friday until closing Sunday
All trains will operate to/from Mt. Vernon Square rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mt. Vernon Sq should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.
Yellow Line train frequencies are adjusted to coordinate with Green Line single tracking.
Green Line
Trains every 24 minutes | 10:00 p.m. Friday until closing Sunday
Single tracking between Georgia Av-Petworth and Prince George’s Plaza to allow for switch replacement and communication cable installation.
