D.C. residents are in for a slamming time at two downtown venues next week. On Monday, sports fans can take part in the Tennis Channel’s first U.S. public viewing event of the Roland Garros, better known as the French Open. It’s happening May 23 through 27 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center’s Woodrow Wilson Plaza.
The weeklong event kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with the French Ambassador, H.E. Gérard Araud the French Ambassador’s representative, Mr. Patrick Lachaussee, First Counsellor, who “will speak briefly about sports diplomacy and then flip the switch on the viewing screen, officially opening the venue to the public,” according to a release. Then, live coverage on a 14 foot screen will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., until next Friday.
Last year, Novak Djokovic defeated five-time defending champion Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.
