For a second summer, D.C. is bringing back free CPR classes as part of National Safety Month. And seeing as though my partner was electrocuted on Monday, I’m here to tell you: GO GET CPR TRAINED, PEOPLE.
Don’t worry, he’s fine. But I still haven’t gotten over the shock of realizing that I probably wouldn’t have been of much use if things had happened differently (that “babysitter first aid course” I took in a New Jersey mall as a teenager definitely wasn’t going to do it).
Anyway, Serve DC, the mayor’s volunteer office, is coming to the rescue with another batch of free classes this month. There is a course from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. several days each week, spread throughout the city (except for Saturday, June 18, when it will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.)
Trainers certified by the Red Cross will give a course on both CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) in responding to breathing or cardiac emergencies. Go sign up here.
