Montgomery County Police is asking for the public’s help in finding two suspects in a June stabbing murder at a local park that they say is gang-related. Police have already arrested and charged two other suspects in the case.

In a press conference today, police officials talked about the circumstances that led to the murder of 18-year-old Cristian Antonio Villagran-Morales, who was stabbed more than 40 times in Gaithersburg’s Malcolm King Park.

Captain Darren Francke, director of the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division, says that Villagran-Morales was spending the summer in the area with cousins and working as a landscaper.

He “really had done nothing wrong,” said Francke. “Unfortunately, he got involved with the wrong young lady.”

In early July, MCPD arrested Vanesa Alverado, 19 years old, and Juan Gutierrez-Vasquez, age 16, both of Gaithersburg. Police say both admitted their involvement in Villagran-Morales’ homicide. They have both been charged with first degree murder and are currently being held in custody with a $1 million bond.

“Vanesa Alverado lured Christian to the area with the promise of sex,” said Francke. “She did this because members of MS-13 decided they wanted to kill Christian.”

Police are looking for 20-year-old Jose Coreas Ventura and 27-year-old Oscar Ernesto Delgado-Perez, who Francke characterizes as “extremely dangerous and they’re on the run,” last known to be near Wheaton. There are warrants issued for their arrest.

“We want to get them into custody as soon as possible so they’re no longer contributing to the MS-13 mayhem and they’re no longer a problem for our community,” Francke said.

This is the tenth gang-related killing in as many months for Montgomery County, according to The Washington Post. Six of them are related to MS-13.

The gang, also known as Mara Salvatrucha, began in Los Angeles in the 1980s by El Salvadorean immigrants, and has since become an international organized crime network. Members in the area have been linked to sex trafficking and violent murders.

“It’s absolutely senseless,” Francke said, specifying that Villagran-Morales was not involved with MS-13. “This young man was a hardworking young man. He came down here for a job.”

MCPD is asking anyone with knowledge of Ventura or Delgado-Perez’s whereabouts to call immediately call 301-279-8000.
