As the first day of the Republican National Convention gets going in Cleveland, the heavens have darkened in D.C.

A blustery storm is on its way in, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the D.C. area until 5:30 p.m. and a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m.

Storms were located “along a line extending from near Fairland to near Lorton” moving eastward at 35 mph, according to the alert. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph are likely to cause large branches and some trees to fall; power outages and road blockages are possible. There have already been reports of downed trees in Bethesda.

NWS recommends staying indoors and to avoid driving underneath trees or in wooded areas.
