Metro is almost a third of the way through its yearlong extended maintenance plan, and District residents are days away from a weekend of rail delays. Slowdowns on the Orange and Silver Lines are due to SafeTrack’s fifth surge, which entails continuous single tracking between Vienna and Ballston. Trains on these two lines will operate every 18 minutes until July 31. The Red Line is getting repairs this weekend also, which will cause single tracking and wait times between 6 to 18 minutes. The Blue, Yellow, and Green Lines will run every 18 minutes to coordinate with work that’s happening throughout the rest of the system.

Red Line

Trains every 8-16 minutes | 10:00 p.m. Friday through closing Sunday

Single tracking between Grosvenor & Twinbrook to allow for concrete column repair.

Red Line trains will operate:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont every 16 minutes.

  • Between Grosvenor & Silver Spring every 8-10 minutes from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Orange Line

Continuous single tracking, trains every 18 minutes

Single tracking between East Falls Church and Ballston for SafeTrack Surge #5. SafeTrack Surge #5 runs through system closing Sunday, July 31.

Orange Line trains will operate between Vienna & New Carrollton every 18 minutes.

Silver Line

Continuous single tracking, trains every 18 minutes

Single tracking between East Falls Church and Ballston for SafeTrack Surge #5. SafeTrack Surge #5 runs through system closing Sunday, July 31.

Silver Line trains will operate between Wiehle-Reston East & Largo Town Center every 18 minutes.

Blue Line

Trains every 18 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday

Blue Line trains will operate every 18 minutes to coordinate with revised train frequencies on the Orange, Silver and Yellow lines.

Yellow Line

Trains every 18 minutes Huntington to Mount Vernon Square only | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday

Yellow Line trains will operate every 18 minutes to coordinate with revised train frequencies on the Blue and Green lines.

All trains will operate to/from Mount Vernon Square rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of Mount Vernon Square should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.

Green Line

Trains every 18 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday

Green Line trains will operate every 18 minutes to coordinate with revised train frequencies on the Yellow Line.
