As a heat dome imprisons the city, the inferno outside has set new daily records—99 degrees at Dulles and 100 degrees at DCA. That made it the hottest day in D.C. since July of 2012, the Capital Weather Gang reports. BWI, meanwhile, tied the record of 100 degrees set in 2010.
But, of course, it didn’t feel like that, which anyone who left the safety of their air-conditioned bunker today would know. The heat index fluctuated between 102 and 112 degrees today, according to NBC meteorologist Doug Kammerer.
And yes, the heat is responsible for your Metro ride home taking longer than usual.
Next up? A severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. with the potential for major wind gusts and large hail.
