Commuters are returning to Union Station after the train hub was evacuated amid a suspicious package and reports of a bomb threat.

Metro Transit Police said they are assisting with an investigation into a package in the Amtrak terminal. Metro continued to operate, but MTPD recommended going to the NoMa-Gallaudet Station instead. MARC and VRE service out of Union Station, however, were suspended. And the westbound lanes of Massachussetts Avenue NE were also closed to traffic between 1st and 3rd Streets; they are now open once again.

While police have confirmed the suspicious package, an officer on scene told Reuters that there was a bomb threat.

Throngs of commuters fled the building as police rushed in.

And now that the all-clear has been given, they’re returning to the regular commute.
