A nurse fell nearly 100 feet into a river this morning after stopping to help two drivers who were involved in a crash. The incident took place on Interstate 70 in Frederick County, Maryland.
A dump truck and a tractor trailer collided on a bridge over the Monocacy River around 5 a.m., according to Fox 5. The truck overturned and the trailer jackknifed. Police said that the woman was driving on the opposite side of the highway, pulled over, and ran to the scene. She jumped over a jersey wall believing there was a median on the other side, but instead, she fell into the river.
TJ McCardle, one of the men who helped the nurse out of the river, told Fox 5 that she was in stable condition. All three victims were taken to area hospitals, according to WUSA.
The westbound side of Interstate 70 is still backed up.
