A study released by Farmers Insurance Group of Companies named the Bethesda, Md. metro area, which also includes Gaithersburg and Frederick apparently, as the most secure place in America.
Washington might be able to handle international summits without blinking an eye, but it’s not something that officials in Frederick, Maryland are used to. They’ll have to learn quickly—Frederick is the closest city to the upcoming G8 Summit at Camp David.

Good morning, Washington. For two D.C. area men, seemingly innocuous backyard delicacies turned out to be “death caps” and “destroying angels.” Catering to dangerous culinary whims, the men grew extremely ill after they ate mushrooms growing on their properties, which had flourished after heavy rains around the region.

Ah, the school lunch trade. It’s often a student’s first real introduction into the manner in which the world really works: how, at the end of the day, life’s usually just one crushing letdown after another. One unlucky student at Frederick High School in Maryland can certainly attest to having recently learned that hard lesson. WAMU reports that a 16-year-old at the school went to the hospital earlier this week after eating a shared cupcake that was believed to have been laced with an illegal substance, likely marijuana.

Frederick Plane Thief Identified as Homeless Man
The Associated Press has an update on the story out of Frederick, Maryland, in which a homeless man stole a single-engine plane but crashed it on a municipal airport runway before taking off. The man, 51-year-old Calvin Cox, will be facing a bond hearing today on charges of felony theft, burglary and trespassing. Lt.
