Police announced this morning that they arrested the mayor of Fairfax City in a sex-for-drugs sting.

Richard “Scott” Silverthorne is being charged for the distribution of methamphetamine and possessing drug paraphernalia. Yesterday, the mayor gave undercover detectives meth in exchange for sexual favors, according to a release from the Fairfax County Police.

During a drug investigation that began last month, detectives linked Silverthorne to a website used to arrange casual sexual encounters between men. After communicating through the site and text messages, police allege that Silverthorne told an undercover detective that he could provide meth in exchange for sexual encounters.

Yesterday, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Tysons Corner, police say Silverthorne provided the drug to undercover officers and was subsequently arrested. In addition to his mayoral position, 50-year-old Silverthorne is also employed as a substitute teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools.

After arresting Silverthorne, detectives located his alleged suppliers, Juan Jose Fernandez and Caustin Lee McLaughlin, who were arrested as well. The three men were taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center for processing.
