Update: On Tuesday, August 30, D.C. Police arrested two additional people in the McDonalds bathroom shooting that occurred on August 12, according to a release from MPD.
A 17-year-old juvenile male from Capitol Heights, Maryland was arrested and charged with assault with intent to rob, following a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant. Lafayette Booker, a 20-year-old from Northeast D.C., was also arrested and charged with assault with intent to rob.
Original: The Metropolitan Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect involved in a daytime shooting that took place in a McDonald’s bathroom. Police arrested a 15 year-old male who is being charged with assault with intent to kill.
The incident happened on August 12 around 11:38 a.m. in Chinatown. Police released footage of the suspect on Saturday.
In the video, the victim is seen walking into the restroom. A few moments later, the suspect follows him, then casually walks out. After the incident, police were flagged down and found the victim suffering from the gunshot wound inside the restaurant, according to an MPD release. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The scene was expectedly chaotic, according to a good Samaritan who was interviewed by NBC 4. When he first saw the victim, “I thought it was a prank because the way that the blood was coming out of his head,” the man told NBC 4. While others ran, the man provided aide by taking off his own shirt and placing it over the victim’s wound. “There was a point where I was holding him and I was scared that the gunman was still in the bathroom, and I thought about running, but I decided against it,” he says.
