Yet again, the weather folks are telling D.C. residents to prepare ourselves for potential downpours. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch from 4 p.m. “through late tonight.”

District residents and people in surrounding areas could see rainfall rates of one to two inches per hour “in addition to repetitive thunderstorms.” The storms will increase throughout the evening, NWS says. And the excessive rainfall could lead to “rapid flooding” of small streams and urban areas.

As Ellicott City recovers from a fatal flood last month, the NWS makes it clear in its alert that “flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.”

Some good news though, the District is finally rebounding from its heat wave and should see temperatures drop a little this weekend.
