Metrorail riders can expect disruptions on four lines this weekend, including four station closures.
Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbrook, and White Flint will be closed throughout the weekend, and shuttle buses will replace train service. Elsewhere on the Red Line, trains will operate every 8 to 15 minutes. Meanwhile, Silver Line trains will run every 10 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only, and Orange and Blue line trains will operate every 24 minutes. The Yellow and Green Lines are on a regular weekend schedule.
Metrorail is currently in the seventh surge of SafeTrack. And yesterday, Metro General Manager Paul Weidefeld announced modifications to the yearlong maintenance plan that include consecutive weekend shutdowns at several stations and extensions of three surges, pushing back the timeline for the entire project.
Next month, Wiedefeld will announce more disruptions for SafeTrack projects that are slated for later this year and next year.
Red Line
Buses replace trains between Shady Grove and Grosvenor | 7 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
From 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday, buses will replace Red Line trains between Shady Grove and Grosvenor stations.
Free shuttle buses will operate on two routes:
- Local: Between Shady Grove and Grosvenor making intermediate stops at Rockville, Twinbrook and White Flint. Please allow 15 minutes of travel time for each station stop.
- Express: Between Shady Grove and Grosvenor making no intermediate stops. Please allow 25 minutes travel time.
Stations Closed: Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbrook, and White Flint
Red Line trains will operate:
- Between Grosvenor & Glenmont every 15 minutes.
- Between Grosvenor & Silver Spring every 8 minutes from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Work Performed: Switch maintenance and radio cable installation.
Orange Line
Trains every 24 minutes | 7 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
Single tracking between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory to allow for radio cable installation.
Silver Line
Trains every 10-12 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & Ballston | 7 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
Silver Line trains will operate every 10 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only. Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.
Blue Line
Trains every 24 minutes | 7 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
Single tracking between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory to allow for radio cable installation.
Yellow Line
