The National Park Service is celebrating its 100th anniversary by getting people in formation. No, Beyonce won’t be performing on the National Mall, but 1,000 people will be assembled to create a living version of NPS’s emblem on Thursday. It will take place from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on the west side of the Washington Monument grounds.
This will mark the world’s largest Arrowhead created on the Washington Monument grounds, according to an NPS release. Participants will hold brown, green, and white umbrellas to recreate the emblem. Once everyone is arranged, a photographer will take an aerial shot that will be shared on the NPS’ website and social media accounts.
This event is among several activities taking place locally throughout the month to celebrate NPS’ centennial including mini golf at Hains Point, lattes at the Lincoln Memorial, and a scavenger hunt inside a few Smithsonian museums. You can also gawk at the ridiculously good looking parks around the country.
The first 1,000 folks to show up on Thursday will get a t-shirt “commemorating their participation in this historic event,” the NPS says. Plus, participants can keep their umbrellas.
So far, 38 people have signed up via the event’s Facebook page.
