American University students are protesting this afternoon after they say two black female students were “the victims of acts of hate.”
In the first incident, someone threw a rotten banana into a student’s dorm room, according to a statement from the BSA. Another student, Neah Gray, had boxes and a rotten banana placed in front of her dorm room, and “penises drawn on her whiteboard.”
“I wouldn’t let people drive me out, but it’s kind of sad that this kind of thing still happens,” Gray, a Brooklyn native, told The Washington Post.
Both incidents took place in the Anderson dormitory on September 8, according to The Post. The BSA has received support from the university’s student government, and professors, among others.

On Friday, the University released a statement saying that the cases are being investigated separately by the school’s dean of students and department of public safety. Two white male freshmen are being connected to the incident, according to The Post.
Meanwhile, the protest is taking place at 4 p.m. today.
It’s a rough time to be black at AU, but at least we have a lot of students who are demanding change ✊?#TheRealAU https://t.co/zoRXyqtFVA
