D.C. artists have a chance to take a legendary New York stage and win beaucoup bucks. Scouts from the Apollo Theater are hosting a casting call at Howard University’s Cramton Auditorium on Saturday for their iconic Amateur Night show.

The auditions are open to unsigned singers, rappers, dancers, comedians, and spoken word artists, among other performers. Adults will have 90 seconds to compete for a spot in next year’s Amateur Night line-up and a new season finale grand prize of $20,000. And children, ages 5 to 17, can vie to perform on the show’s “Child Star of Tomorrow” segment.

Ground rules include no profanity or racial slurs, no live bands, and no singing over a Beyonce (or any artists’) track, among other things.

The casting call is scheduled for 10 a.m. Judges will only see the first 250 people, if time permits, so folks are encouraged to arrive early.

In audition to New York, scouts also stopped in Philly this month. “The Apollo is the world’s stage and, as such, we want to make sure the performers are equally world-class. By reaching out to talent in locations like Washington, DC, we ensure we are getting the best possible competitors,” said Amateur Night producer and audition judge Marion J. Caffey. “Long before American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and Star Search, the Apollo’s Amateur Night was, and continues to be, a primary source for discovering and spotlighting up-and-coming artists. We’re on a hunt for the best of the best.”
