When the African American History And Culture Museum opened last week, it fulfilled a long-promised dream. Naturally, three months worth of tickets, through the end of the year, have already been completely distributed.

Anyone who fell asleep at the e-ticket window has another opportunity to get in line on Monday. The Smithsonian will release another set of free passes on Monday, starting at 9 a.m. online or by phone: 1-866-297-4020. The tickets will cover dates in January, February, and March.

Visitors can also attempt to get same-day passes, which are distributed for the day beginning at 9:15 a.m. They are given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

In the meantime, we recommend checking out the Anacostia Community Museum. It is one of the Smithsonian’s most underrated facilities, and offers a particularly good primer on Chocolate City.
