This post has been updated to include the cause of the crash.
A major Southeast road shut down for hours last night due to a deadly crash involving a Metrobus.
One person died after the bus and a car collided, according to D.C. Police spokesperson Aquita Brown. The incident took place around 10:30 p.m. on Suitland Parkway near Stanton Road after a driver failed to stop at a red light traffic signal.
The crash also injured another person in the car and two bus passengers, D.C. Fire and EMS tweeted. The bus leaked fuel as a result of the crash, and a Hazmat crew was called to the scene.
The road reopened around 4 a.m., according to D.C. Police.
