Now in its third decade, the 17th Street High Heel Race returned to Dupont Circle last night. And as can be expected less than two weeks before the election, politics got dragged into the festivities. The group Gays Against Guns, which started advocating for gun control after the Pulse nightclub attack, came out to protest Republican Barbara Comstock as she fights for her seat amid anti-Trump backlash. A group of “Trumpettes,” meanwhile, came with signs reading “take our cuntry back” and glorious rust-colored bouffants. Darelene Deplorable brought a basket filled with Ann Coulter reading materials, that said: “This race is rigged … unless I win.” And Hillary Clinton wasn’t left out, with her own portrayal as Lady MacDeath.
