Update: The deer has been cleared from the Metro tracks near Silver Spring, and rail service has been restored between Silver Spring and Forest Glen.

Metro says that passengers should expect residual delays.

While you’re waiting for your train, check out this haunting video of a deer inside Addison Road Station a few years back, sent to us by Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel.

And what became of the deer that caused this morning’s delays? “Once it was off the tracks, the deer continued on its way,” says Metro spokesperson Sherri Ly.

Original: Guys, I think the animals are sick of our shit.

First, a mysterious raccoon attack led a park police officer to shoot himself in the foot, and now, a deer on the Metro tracks near Silver Spring is causing delays on the Red Line.

Rail service is temporarily suspended between Silver Spring and Forest Glen while Metro works to remove the deer, says spokesperson Sherri Ly, with a bus service to get passengers to the affected stations. The Red Line was previously single-tracking to deal with the deer.

Delays are occurring in both directions on the Red Line as a result. The current SafeTrack surge also affects that line, shuttering Brookland and Rhode Island Ave. stations.

The creature is alive, according to Ly, who says this isn’t the first time that a deer has ventured onto the Metro tracks.
