If you need a place to rest your weary head tonight, never fear—the Trump International Hotel is here!
The newly opened Trump hotel in the Old Post Office has a ton of room openings this evening.
According to a receptionist, the cheapest available option is the “Deluxe Room,” which has one king-size bed and costs $755 per night, plus hotel tax.
If you’re willing to part with a few more dollars, you could also spend the night in a premier room, an executive room, a junior suite, an executive junior suite, a deluxe one-bedroom suite, a premier one-bedroom suite, or an executive one-bedroom suite, per the hotel’s website.
While Republican nominee Donald Trump has held campaign events at the hotel and namechecked it during the debates, he’ll be hosting what he’s calling his “victory party” at a Manhattan Hilton.
Of course, Washington D.C. isn’t necessarily a big hot spot for Election Night—a cursory look at Hotels.com shows that tons of area lodges have openings tonight.
A much more popular time for visitors is the forthcoming presidential inauguration on January 20, 2017, but the International Trump Hotel still has openings for that time, as well. That might have something to do with the five-night minimum the hotel is requiring, with rates starting at $1,250 per night plus tax.
There’s another option for the inaugural visitor looking for a steal: a $500,000 weekend package that includes a catered diner for 24.
Another attempt at jazzing up interest—a bidding system by which people paid $250 for the right to reserve a room that weekend if one guessed the winner of the presidential contest—was stymied by low participation and a Securities and Exchange Commission fraud probe of partner Ticket Reserve Inc. Notably, the promotion occurred in 2014, before Trump threw his hat in the ring, and he wasn’t an option as a candidate for bidders guessing the outcome of the race.
Is this the sign of an imperiled future for the new hotel? Empty rooms have led International Trump Hotel to cut room rates and increase prices at the cocktail bar since the soft opening. It’s also been the site of consistent protests and multiple instances of vandalism.
The Trump Organization won a 60-year lease for the Old Post Office building from the federal government in 2012.
