Heritage India (2400 Wisconsin Ave. NW) is planning to vacate its Glover Park space and move north to a new location at 3238 Wisconsin Avenue, on the corner of Macomb Street. That address was most recently home to District 2 Bar & Grille, which closed after a New Year’s Day fire in 2015 and never reopened.
Owner Mitul Tuli told DCist they hope open around up around the end of January or early February but that an exact date is still being worked out.
Among the primary reasons for the move, she says, was to have a location at ground level (accessing the Glover Park location requires climbing stairs) to better accommodate customers and improve overall visibility. And while the new space is smaller, it will feature a patio, something Tuli says she’s long wanted to offer.
Heritage India joins a neighborhood with several other Indian restaurants in the proximity, including Masala Art (4441 Wisconsin Ave NW.), Indique (3512 Connecticut Ave. NW) and the newly-opened Bindaas (3309 Connecticut Ave. NW).
Heritage India has moved around several times in the past years. In 2012, it closed a location at 1337 Connecticut Ave. NW, the site of a fatal shooting the year before, though the owners at the time said the closing was unrelated and was instead due to the lease expiring. The restaurant reopened at 1633 P St before closing again in 2014. It also had a space at 1901 Pennsylvania Ave NW, which, as the Washington Post reported last year, had its own troubles and is no longer open.
