The WWII Memorial will host two ceremonies this week commemorating the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
A candlelight vigil will be held on Tuesday night, beginning at 5 p.m. Over three hours, the names of all 2,403 men and women whose lives were lost in the attack will be read out.
At 12:53 p.m. on December 7, nearly two dozen Pearl Harbor and WWII survivors will attend a ceremony at the memorial. Senator John McCain will serve as a keynote speaker, and Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s great-grandson will read the “Day of Infamy” speech.
President Barack Obama plans to visit Pearl Harbor at the end of December, and he will be joined by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Abe will be the first sitting Japanese head of state to visit the site, following Obama’s visit to Hiroshima earlier this year.
