District residents should prepare for some wintry mixes this week—beginning tonight, according to weather experts.
There’s a 50 percent chance of precipitation this evening, according to the National Weather Service, and it will come in the form of rain, sleet, and snow. NWS predicts that rain will come before 10 p.m., then there’s a chance of rain, snow, and sleet between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m, followed by a slight chance of snow and sleet after 1 a.m.
While snow may not show up again over the next couple days, Arctic air will arrive on Thursday, the Capital Weather Gang reports, adding that “it will be our coldest December day in at least three years by Friday.” The highest temperature will be around 27 degrees and the low will be about 16 degrees on Thursday, according to the NWS. It’ll also be blustery with wind gusts as high as 31 mph.
Then, snow returns for the weekend. There’s a 50 percent chance of precipitation on Friday, which includes a chance of snow after 8 p.m., according to the NWS.
And snow and sleet are possible Saturday morning before temperatures begin to rise, NBC’s Storm Team 4 reports.
