Christmas, New Years and the week in between mean less work and more fun. Whether with friends, family or just a hearty appetite, here’s how to eat and drink your way through D.C.

This week’s food events:

Pre-game Christmas Eve
Despite the holiday weekend, Bluejacket (300 Tingey St. NW) is still holding its Friday Night Beer & Bites Tour. With a $35 ticket, guests are greeted with a signature draft, take a whole brewery tour while sipping on three tasters, and then conclude with three more tasters paired with snacks. Beer & Bites lasts from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Fröhe Weihnachten feast
Quite a few hotels and restaurants are offering prix fixe menus on Christmas Day, but few are as interesting as Cafe Berlin’s (322 Massachusetts Ave. NE) on Capitol Hill. Its $43, three-course meal offers Deutschland delicacies like assorted schnitzel, bratwurst, and wild game bird soup with pulled quail and roasted chestnuts.

Boxing Day with a side of breakfast beer
Dock FC(1400 Okie St. NW), Ivy City’s soccer-centric sports bar, is bringing the English tradition of soccer on Boxing Day (December 26) to D.C. While sixteen teams from the English Premier League battle across the pond, guests can have an interesting menu of beer, egg sandwiches, and Dock FC’s signature tacos. Games will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hangover brunch and $1 mimosas

If you still have energy after New Year’s Eve, head to The Prospect (1214 U St. NW) for a hangover brunch. The newly-updated menu includes a breakfast sandwich topped high with bacon, sausage, American cheese and crispy hashbrowns on a brioche bun. Chicken and waffle sliders and chicken wings are among the other choices. Best of all, you can wash it all down and welcome 2017 with $1 mimosas from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Buns and bubbly at Shake Shack
Celiacs and health nuts rejoice! Shake Shack is now offering its beloved burgers and chicken shack sandwiches with gluten-free buns. Avoid the stomachache and enjoy the flavor for just one extra dollar. All DMV Shack locations will also offer half-bottles of Mionetto prosecco for $15, and that is something everyone can celebrate.

Openings:

Philadelphia fast-casual spot Honeygrow is opening up its second area location next week at 716 7th St. in Chinatown (the other is in Pentagon City). The menu features a variety of made-to-order stir fry and salad options, as well as a “honeybar” for sweet snacks made with fruit, whipped cream, honey, or syrup, and garnishes like chocolate chips and granola. The D.C. locations feature a special Chesapeake crab stir fry, made with egg noodles, blue crab, Old Bay tomato broth, and vegetables.

Plan ahead

Winter Restaurant Week

It’s never too early to plan for Restaurant Week, the perfect way to curtail January’s post-holiday blues. Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington released its lineup, which now includes more than 50 options for $22 brunches. Diners will find an array of RAMMY winters, old favorites and new options like Ambar’s latest location in Clarendon. Winter restaurant week 2017 will be held from January 30 to February 5.
