D.C. Police released this picture of the suspect, now identified as Adrian Duane Johnson.D.C. police have identified Adrian Duane Johnson, who also goes by Duane Adrian Johnson, of Upper Marlboro, Md. as the suspect charged in the murder of a local actress and yoga teacher.
Johnson, 29, has been charged with first degree murder, as well as theft and simple assault, in the death of 46-year-old Tricia McCauley. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said the cause of death was strangulation with blunt force trauma.
“We do not believe at this time that the suspect knew the victim,” interim Police Chief Peter Newsham said at a press conference this morning.
McCauley was last seen around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. She didn’t show up to a Christmas dinner and missed her flight out of Ronald Reagan National Airport to visit family the following day.
Police released a photo shortly before 11 p.m. last night of a man, described as 5’9” tall with an athletic build, who may have been driving McCauley’s Toyota Scion.They received a tip that the car was seen near 22nd and M Streets in Northwest, and officers confronted Johnson at a CVS nearby.
A man by the same name was charged in a violent robbery and an attempted violent robbery on September 1.
Friends are gathering tonight at a local yoga studio and a park to honor McCauley’s life.
