Metrorail’s weekend track work can often cause more than 20 minute wait times. But this weekend, the system will be free from major service disruptions, though there will be late-night single tracking on two lines for preventative maintenance and communication cable installation.
On Monday—Martin Luther King Jr. Day—Metrorail will open at 5 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will run on a Saturday schedule, every 12 minutes, with no track work scheduled. And Metrobus will operate on a Saturday supplemental schedule, with some post-midnight trips canceled on selected routes. And as on all federal holidays, off-peak fares will be in effect all day, and parking will be free at all Metro-operated facilities.
And some time this month, Metro officials are expected to announce when exactly the SafeTrack maintenance program will resume in February.
