President Barack Obama left the oval office for the final time this morning. He made his exit around 9:15 a.m., according to White House press officials.

Yesterday, the president shared a thank you letter to the American people, calling them “the source of goodness, resilience, and hope from which I’ve pulled strength” over the past eight years.

He also mentioned the long-standing tradition of the sitting president leaving “a parting letter” in the oval office for his or her successor. “It’s a letter meant to share what we know, what we’ve learned, and what small wisdom may help our successor bear the great responsibility that comes with the highest office in our land, and the leadership of the free world,” President Obama explained.

In a video recorded by NBC News, Obama is seen leaving that letter in a desk drawer for president-elect Donald Trump.

Shortly thereafter, he walked out of the door and waved to members of the press. When asked if he felt nostalgic, he replied “of course,” according to reports.

And when asked to share any last words for the American people, he said “thank you.”
